On Tower Avenue in Superior, Wisconsin, located next to the Anchor is a vintage tavern owned by Molly. The mystique of her place can only be outdone by Molly herself. She is nightly the host at her bar. Over the years Molly retains the experiences her patrons have shared with her. She doesn't listen to people - she absorbs them. Visiting with her is an experience. She'll share her colorful stories of a more wild night-life that Supperior once provided. Nothing you can say could shock her, nor is she intimated by anyone. She embraces people with respect and insists on the same. Molly's is truly a blending of people of all ages and walks of life.
When Mariann Johnson told me of the old vinyl records she had of Molly and her family and friends singing, I knew we had to do something to restore those memories and sounds. So on this, your 88th Birthday Molly, a CD with your singing and stories and even off-color jokes is released . Not many put out their first album at 88 - but you're not most people!
To those of you who might read this, if you've ever been a patron or met Molly, stop in and personally wish her a Happy Birthday, it doesn't have to be on February 14th, do it sometime though. Sit down and have a beverage and visit. To those who have never had the experience of her place, it's something very special . From her son, Oscar's antiques and jukeboxes to the vintage signage from storefronts and theatres of yesterday - more than one visit will be needed to contemplate all that their treasures hold.
So Molly, know that your friends, fellow bar owners and famiily are all thinking of you on your birthday!
